The above works fine if you have two (or more) programs
to switch between.
Go back to the original question and take my answer in
context.  He had properly uninstalled an "enhanced viewer
type" program.  To the best of anyones knowledge, he had
nothing to "associate to" to gain back what he had lost.
He would have had to make multiple association changes
to "un-do" back to a "windows default" type of installation.
(QuickTime, the missing program, took over more that .bmp)

We all know that a lot of programs "setup" a lot of things
a certain way. An installation of the proper program will
solve all the problems at once. A good installation
program will put more stuff in the registry than you can
ever keep track of.
This is starting to sound like the "deltree windows" debate
all over again. There are lots of similarities...
So I will shut up now.
