There's a setting in Telnet which will "echo back" to your screen what you
type if the remote computer doesn't do the echoing.  I don't have a Win
98/ME machine here to give the exact setting name, but that's the reason
that you don't see what you are typing.   Maybe someone on a 98 machine can
get the exact setting if you aren't unable to locate it.
