As far as I know, this can't be done without reinstalling XP.  Even Tomsterdam's very good OE helpsite makes no mention of a workable method.  Running SFC might help.

However, perhaps someone else has a solution?

But you don't need to lose your emails and address book, Nancy.  As long as you can get into Windows, you can find your way to the email folder and address book and copy them to somewhere else.

They could be in any one of several places but a search for *.dbx and *.wab should locate them.
