I would try using "Fdisk" to see if there is a hidden partition and, 
using Fdisk, eliminate that partition. Then there should only be one 
partition left to format. Then reinstall XP.

Your previous format, although seemingly complete, would not have 
included a hidden partition, if there is a hidden partition.
