Packard Bell POS P75, Win95a, MSWorks 4.0

I use MSWorks 4.0 and now I'm having a problem, when I use the
spreadsheet. I'm working on a project that uses names. I input the
surname into one cell and the first name in the next cell. I have to
input the first name "Jan" into a cell. When I move to the next cell,
the program converts Jan into January. I don't understand why. The
only way I can overcome this is to input "Ja" into the cell, move to
another cell, then come back and input the "n". I find this cumbersome.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can convince the program that
"Jan" is not "January?"

Thank you for any assistance.
