Hi David - you led me in the right direction. Thank you. What I ended up
doing was: 1) Image>resize>640 x 480 2) File>Save As>Options>Jpeg>Quality
set to 72. The file that was originally 276KB ended up at 35KB and the
resulting picture looked great. Now, I'll load irfanview on his computer,
teach him the 2 simple steps, perhaps even add it to his right click. I'm a
happy camper. Thanks again...and good night. Dianne

>>> There are three basic ways to get the size of a digital image down
to 50-60Kb:

1. Shrink it down from "8x10" to something more like "wallet size".
I think that's what Photo Express is doing that your husband doesn't
like.

2. Decrease the resolution, say from 300dpi to 72dpi (a a common
printer resolution). Can look a lot like 3, below:

3. Allow .jpg compression to sacrifice fine details.

I normally use some combination of 1&3 to make small/fast versions
of the mster images which stay at larger resolutions and lossless
(.tif, for instance) compression.
