First, you'll have to give us a lot more info about your computer, and
which version of windows you are running. When did this first start--is it
gradual or did it happen suddenly? There are hundreds of possible reasons,
and we'll have to narrow down the possibilities.
And we'll need to know your degree of proficiency.
For starters, run Msconfig and take everything out of startup. Reboot and
see how it goes.
Is your antivirus up to date, and have you run a full virus scan?
Other general possibilities in an older computer could be overheating, or
faulty memory.
Try a System Restore.
I'll be away for a couple of weeks, so hopefully others can help you
