I don't think you're alone. Google returns 529,000 answers on deleting OE
messages.

First try these remedies:

http://askbobrankin.com/cant_delete_email_in_outlook_express.html

OE is tightly bound up with the browser Internet Explorer. A corruption in
one can affect the other. OE can be subject to many different sorts of
corruptions. If you've experienced problems browsing recently, you may need
to reinstall IE. See here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378

One tip not mentioned is that most emailers have an option to leave mail on
the server. I don't use OE, but check in its tools/options to see if that
option is there. Uncheck it. If mail is left on server, it could get
downloaded multiple times.

There are many possible causes. If you don't find the answer above, Google
for something like "Outlook Express messages delete". In the absence of
other readers suggestions, I'll leave it to you to sift through the
half-million answers. Good luck.

PS. To avoid future OE problems, you might consider downloading the free
Thunderbird email program. It's probably the most popular of the freeware
emailers right now, and has a very large following. In fact, it's always a
good idea to have an alternative emailer set up, in case one suddenly goes
wrong and you may end up missing out on that $5million that some kind
Russian Prince is eager to deposit in your bank account.
