  Irfanview may be doing two things that NERO isnt:

1.  Sorting by date rather than name, assuming chronological order is 
probably what you'll want.

2.  Recognizing that beginner users often don't know how to number their 
photos to work properly everywhere, and so trying to figure out if there is 
a "sequence number" in the name and use that to sort on.  A lot of work that 
most programs -- including Windows Explorer -- don't bother to try.
