While installing Windows XP Home on a new computer that has successfully
loaded and run Windows ME:
Setup successfully loaded files in memory, partitioned disk, formatted
disk NTFS, loaded files onto HD and rebooted to the regular Windows XP
Home Edition screen, a blue screen appeared with the following message:
STOP: 0xc0000218 (Registry File Failure)
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
Celeron 1.1
128mb PC133
40 Gb Seagate
BioStar M6VLQ MB
This error message is mentioned on the Microsoft Knowledge Base article
Q314874 and the reason sited is bad HD sectors or bad Memory. Both have
been replaced. Most of the article speaks to running systems that get
this message, while my problem is with a new installation that never has
worked on XP Home.
Any suggestions as to what to do to get XP running on this machine would
be appreciated.
