In order to avoid piracy the playstation is unable to normally run backup
cds. However, there are tools you can buy that take a thin layer of plastic
off the bottom of the cd to get rid of scratches. (This works since the data
is at the top of the cd, below the label.) I've seen this for sale at video
game stores like Electronic Boutique. I also know that some video game
rental places can take your cd for about $4-$5, and send it away to be
polished. We did this once with one of our playstation cds that would no
longer run.
