You might be able to do the repairs by booting off a
rescue floppy. The Debian distribution includes an
excellent one, somewhere in the files for beginning an
installation.
If you have trouble finding it, I can send you a disk
image that you could write to a floppy in DOS using
a utility such as "rawrite".
