Jean,
Look for the line in CONFIG.SYS:
DOS=SINGLE

Remove it

Also, in AUTOEXEC.BAT,
remove the lines that begin with something like
REM Placed here by Windows, do not remove or change

and ending with (I think, it has been a while since I have seen this problem.)
WIN /X

These are the lines placed in CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to allow a game
to work in MS-DOS mode. By removing them, you _should_ be able to boot back
into
Win9x. Also, if they exist, you could rename CONFIG.WOS and AUTOEXEC.WOS to
be the correct files, CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, respectively.

The few times I have seen this happen, the machine was in MS-DOS mode, and a
client
just quit a game to return to windows, except, instead of letting Win9x boot
into the shell,
the client(stupidly?) shut the machine down, apparently while Win9x was
rewriting the
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. I'd say shoot the brother just for good
measure! :>
