Would like to know if anyone has experienced
something similar to the following, or can explain
any of it, please.

My computer was copying a folder from one drive to
the other. The folder had about 300 megs of other
folders and files in it. There was plenty of space
on the destination drive. The computer froze. I had
to reset.

I then explored the destination drive to see what
was successfully copied before the computer froze. I
found that one of the copied folders had a size
listed at over 2 GB. When I opened the folder, I
found about 130 files and 130 folders in it. They
were all named using very strange characters, not
normally allowed in filenames. The dates were all
different, and many had a size exceeding
2,000,000kb. If you want to, you can view a
screenshot of this strange listing at
http://www.hyperspaced.com Just go to the very
bottom of the page. I will keep it there for a week.

I ran a virus checker on the folder that
corresponded to the strange folder.[[That is, I ran
it on the folder from the drive that I copied from,
not on the drive that I copied to]] I also ran
scandisk in thorough mode. I found no virus and
scandisk reported no problems.

When I clicked on the folder in Explorer, just to
see what the folder contained, the computer froze. I
reset. When I tried to delete the folder, a message
came up saying, -- The file 1677_370.exe is a
program. If you remove it, you will no longer be
able to ... ect. That file is a driver for
the matrox millenium. That is what I expected the
folder to contain, and that is also the only thing
that I remember putting in that folder. So I clicked
on "yes", to send the file to the recycle bin, and
the computer froze again. After resetting, [[ctrl -
alt - del doesn't work in this case]] I then right
clicked on the folder and was able to view the
properties. The folder has a size of 1.76 MB, and
contains one file, and 0 folders, which is what
should be there. All attributes are blank.

Anyway, I then pressed shift-del to try to delete
the folder with all of the wierd stuff in it, but
then I got a message stating that the first folder
is read only, and am I sure I want to delete it. I
choose "yes", and a message states that I can't
delete it because the file name is invalid or too
long. So I just formatted the drive. I can move all
the stuff of of the other drive [[the source drive
containing the original folder]] and then format the
drive, but I would like to know if anyone has a
guess as to the problem. Thanks
