I have just completed a clean install of Windows 98 (Build 4.10.1998)on a
system which includes the following:
Motherboard: EPoX EP-51MVP3E-M Super 7 with 100 MHZ Bus
AMD K6 300MHZ MMX Processor
RAM: 128 MB (100 MHZ) SDRAM
Video Card: STB Velocity 128 4MB (NVidia) AGP
Sound Blaster AWE 64 (with Win98 updated driver)
Aver Media TV-Phone Tuner Card
Except for OUTLOOK 98 mail client, no softwares are as yet installed.
However, I did install PowerToys (TweakUI) from the Windows 98 CD and also
IE4.0 PowerToys.
Problem:
When I go to <START> and Right-Click, all the items [Open], [Explore] are
grayed out except [FIND].
I first noticed this problem yesterday, so I had to reformat the HD and
start the installation de novo, monitoring the <START> button as I
proceeded. I observed this 'graying out' of certain menu items after
installing the TWEAK program.
I have uninstalled TWEAK using the <Add/Remove> in Control Panel, rebooted
the system, but the problem still persists.
What could be the probable causes of this problem?
What remedial measures should I take to restore the <START> menu to its full
working condition?
So far the system works fine with no error messages.
And by the way, I was using Windows 98 (build 4.10.1702) with the above
components and throughout the time never encountered such a weird problem.
Thanks to all.
Rich.
