It's been a long time since I worked with version 3, I made a mistake.
Now that I've cleared out the cobwebs <Grin>........

There are no cabinets, for Windows 3.x, each file is separate on the disk.
MS did not start using cabinets until Windows 95.  You must use the Win 3.x
extract command which is on DISK 1.  The Win 9x extract command that is
currently installed on your PC will only work with the Win9x cabinets.

What I did was rename the win95 extract command, copy the win3 command into
C:\windows\command, rename it to extract3.exe and then rename the original
win95 command back to extract.exe.  This allowed me to keep both commands
installed on the PC at once.  Of course, you could just put it into a
different folder and not worry about renaming it, but then in six months (or
six minutes in my case <g>) you might forget what it is and why it's
there.... it's up to you.

Anyway, the basic command is:

EXTRACT drive:path\compressed-name drive:path\uncompressed-name

EXTRACT A:\CARDFILE.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\CARDFILE.EXE

I think there is a DLL and an HLP file that are needed also.  You must
extract them each one at a time.
