Hello Siva,
Here are a few suggestions you can try for the problems you are experiencing
with Windows XP and Internet Explorer (IE) 6.
For #1, go to Control Panel \ Folder Options and on the General tab you can
specify if you want the folders to open in the same window or in it's own
window. With the same window option you would use the Back and Forward
arrows on the Explorer bar. With each folder opening in it's own window, and
more than one open, one window will be "on top" (visible) and the others
behind it with all showing on the Task Bar. Files and programs will also
open in their own window. If the windows are less than full screen you'll
see them stacked one behind the other with the one you're working with on
top.
#2. The Web addresses that are not underlined. If they are in received mail
it is either due to the sender or the sender's e-mail program, providing all
elements of the address are present and correct. You can't change the
original e-mail and probably the quickest way to handle it is to copy the
link and paste it in the Address Bar. If you are typing an address (URL)
while composing an e-mail, insure you use either the Space Bar or the Enter
key after the last digit in the address, otherwise it won't be "active"
(clickable).
For #3 I'm not sure what you mean by the "previously visited links not being
highlighted". IE uses two colors for active links. The default colors are
blue for unvisited and a purple or wine color for visited links. If the link
is active and clickable, it will be one of those two colors. Those colors
can be changed in Control Panel \ Internet Options. On the General tab click
the "Colors..." button, click the color you want to change to view the
options, select a color and click "OK" to close the window and Internet
Options.
Following are some sites that I visit and/or subscribe to newsletters from.
Most are about Windows in general but you'll find information on XP is good
and plentiful.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Problems in using Win XP Professional
I had recently changed my PC to a P4 2.4 GHz having dual boot of
Win XP as well as Win 98. I am facing the following problems ONLY when
using the partition that uses Win XP:
1. It is not possible to open more than one file after selecting them
in windows explorer, I am forced to open those only one by one.
2. The web addresses are not underlined in OE 6 which came
with the XP, this is not the case with OE 5 which comes with
Win 98.
3. When I open a file in the web, if on it there are links that I had
previously visited, then the links are not highlighted.
I shall very much appreciate advice on how to overcome the above
problems
At the same time I would like to know the URL of a site that sends
XP tips regularly; other than from Microsoft. Unfortunately, Dummies
Daily does not have tips for XP.
Thanks Siva Lokanathan
