Kim,

This sounds like you may have a proxie server configured in Netscape.  You
can disable
this by clicking on:
EDIT -- PREFERENCES -- then click the plus sign next to ADVANCED -- then
click PROXIES and make sure the first option is selected,  DIRECT
CONNECTION.....
