Both of these terms apply to the Internet and web browsers.
As the name implies, the Common Gateway Interface is a "go between" or
"method" of allowing the client (browser) computer to perform operations on
the server (web host). PERL is one of the more popular languages which are
used to create the CGI scripts. Some typical examples of CGI usage are
guest books and visitor counters.
