Everick, you need to configure the email scanner in AVG7 - it won't automatically be enabled after installation. However, it can mess with your email settings and I suggest you record them first so that you can restore them if necessary.
You might like to consider using Firetrust's Benign as an independent email virus checker. It works by translating your emails into it's own code, thus eliminating any viri in the process.
Both AVG 6 (free) and AVG7 Pro have often caused me problems with emails. Benign has stopped all that.
