Hi. I am trying to help a friend with this. He has a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion computer. He was having problems accessing the internet aftyer installing the Norton's anti-virus package. So he uninstalled it and still could not get any kind of connection, even after re-installing his disk ( MSN). I thought his registry might be corrupted so I had him do a registry restore from MS-DOS. However, he noticed afterwards that all the registry backup dates were for the year 2003!!!!!!??? In addition, when attempting to restart, he cannot leave DOS, even when typing in commands to start Windows 98. Will he need to re-install Windows? If so, is there a way to re-install it without wiping out the whole hard drive? All options for restarting ( ctrl-alt-del, total shut down, command from MS-DOS have been tried and the computer fails to boot to Windows. It starts momentarily and then automatically returns to DOS. Anyone have ideas on this? Thanks.
