Hello,
I am using Win ME on a Dell 800MHz machine with 512 megs of Ram and 20
gig hard drive with 11 gigs of free space. A few days ago I attempted
to upgrade my Internet Explorer 5.5 to Internet Explorer 6. I
downloaded the files from the internet and the installation itself
proceeded about half way and then aborted with the message that the
installation could not be completed for an unknown reason and that I
should restart my computer and try again. This I did. The installation
failed again.
Since then I have deleted the Windows setup files for IE 6 and tried the
same thing again in hopes that the problem was only a file corrupted
during the downloaded from Microsoft. Apparently that isn't the case
because the IE 6 installation aborts in the same manner each time.
I've had IE 6 on this computer before and it worked perfectly until I
had to reinstall Win ME which, in the process, reinstalled IE 5.5. The
Win ME reinstall did not, however, replace Outlook Express 6 which is
operating perfectly right now.
My question(s): 1) now, whenever I boot, I get a message saying that it
is unable to locate the files to continue the retry of the installation
of IE 6. How can I get rid of this message?
2) any ideas on what I can do to get a clean install of IE 6 on this
machine?
Note: IE 5.5 does not appear anywhere in the Add/Replace Programs menu
so I have not been able to uninstall it completely and try for a
complete new IE install with IE 6.
Thanks for any and all help,
