The BIOS (Award on an MSI BX-Master mb {ms-6163}reports temp upon bootup.
Also, within the CMOS setup there's a CPU Plug & Play page where not only
can I change CPU voltage, clock speed, etc, but also set up Critical
Temperature shutdown parameters.
