The things I don't like about ANY so-called automatic problem-fixers
running in the background are:
1. By nature, they need to monitor all your actions, thus creating a
performance hit. This may or may not be noticeable, largely depending on
the structure and state of health of your computer, and current usage.
2. They will hide problems in a way which occasionally can create bigger
problems. That compounds until suddenly LittleProblem becomes
HugeBreakdown. You may not be aware of it until suddenly all hell breaks
loose. At that point, the problem may well be insoluble.
I've no doubt there are discrete parts of Systemworks that work very well
as stand-alone applications, for use only when and as necessary. Better to
know a problem's there, and try to fix it yourself, rather than try to hide
it. Little problems have a nasty tendency to escalate into bigger ones
which are then much harder to fix.
With XP being largely self-repairing via its automatic DLL caching,
registry restores for most minor probs (use ERUNT for those), System
Restore for more major probs, and SFC /scannow, there's no need for
third-party fixits.
I must add that I've never used Nortons Systemworks, nor any other similar
product. I can only write from what logic, common sense and a little
experience tells me, plus comments I read from others. If it works well
for you, stick with it.
