Windows can do some unpredictable and funny things when the computer
overheats. Check all fans for dust buildup or intermittent failure. An old
fan can sometimes stick occasionally, and overheating will make the CPU
unstable. Listen especially for any change in the sound of fans when this
occurs. Sudden quiet means a fan may have got stuck. They are cheap and
easy to replace.

I believe some computers (perhaps all?) have a failsafe mechanism which
will shut down the computer if it overheats, although I wouldn't expect it
to reboot.

There will be at least a fan near where the CPU chip sits, and another one
on the Power Supply (near where the power cables go in). There may be others.
