When I said I got rid of e-mail scanning by an un-install and
then a custom NON-re-install, I was hopping people
would assume that meant for both incoming and outgoing.
<????>

I use full real time "scan everything as it is opened/accessed".

That should cover everything I get in an e-mail attachment.
But considering I don't open stuff from e-mail, I don't care
if the stuff I never accessed was never scanned.
OTOH, if something else opens it -- it will be scanned then.

FWIW, I consider any time lag to the above to be in my best interests.
Sometimes the AV Defs don't catch up right away OR never detect things at all.
So a built-in time delay seems like a good idea.

This is a personal opinion type of answer and others will have different opinions.
