I have been running Windows 98se on a Micron P1-133 for two years without
updating Windows or having to reinstall, fdisk or format. And My Micron
has run an average of at least three hours per day since I first put
Win98se on it.
So while I don't know the cause of your problem, I don't believe the stuff
about reinstalling, etc. At least not for Win98se.
