Irena,
I'm not sure how to change it from a thorough scan to
a standard one but I think that you might want to
visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and take a
look at least a couple of updates for your system.
After the site loads, click on PRODUCT UPDATES.
The first download that you want to perform is for
CRITICAL UPDATES and has to be done all by its
lonesome. The second update that you want to perform
is the one for the Win98 Shutdown Problem.
