Hi Rhonda,

When you select "Delete" for a contact in the Windows (Outlook Express)
Address Book you are asked, "Are you sure you want to permanently delete the
selected item(s)?". If you select "Yes", the contact is "permanently"
deleted. Unless you have a backup of the address book or can add the person
as a new contact from information you have stored elsewhere (notes?), I'm
afraid they are gone.

To prevent this in the future I suggest you make a backup anytime you make
changes to the address book. You can do this from the address book by going
to File \ Export \ Address Book (WAB)... or you can copy the "wab.exe" file
to another location from the Outlook Express program files folder. I
recommend your son do the same with his important data. I wouldn't feel too
bad about it. Look at it as an inexpensive lesson in backups. It could have
been something really important.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Can I retrieve address book, accidently deleted?

Hi everyone,

I accidently deleted some addresses from my address book in Outlook Express.
Is there any way for me to get them back? They were some of my son's
friends, and he's not too happy about it. They were in his AOL instant
message address book and got copied to Outlook Express. When I deleted them
from Outlook Express, they were also deleted from AOL Instant Message. I
feel really bad about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rhonda Tracy
