Subject: Selecting text in Word97

Hello, In Word or for that matter, even Wordpad or Notepad, how can one
control the amount of selected text when it scrolls off the screen. I have
noticed that the minute the selected text goes beyond the bottom of the
screen the selected portion scrolls very rapidly and one cannot easily
control it. I usually have to start all over and end up after pasteing that
I have to cut some of that because too much was selected. I tried selecting
with the control key depressed but that didn't work. Also, can multiple
non-continuous sections be selected before cutting the passage? Thank you
