Unless you search for a list on the web, as you suggested, you will
have to use some decompression utility or cab viewer to view the
contents.  I don't think that you told us which cab files you want to
view, but for the various Windows operating systems you can
usually find the contents listed on the Web.  Use the search
engines to find the lists.

Microsoft warns you someplace in their knowledge base that they
often move files from one cab to another in different builds, so the
list you get might not be identical to yours.  The easiest place to
start might be http://www.modem-
help.freeserve.co.uk/help/cab.html#sup , which has links to the
Microsoft listings for many builds and sources.  (Sorry about the
break in the link.  I'm tired of fighting with Pegasus Mail about it.)  It
also has links to the Microsoft articles on the different extraction
and display tools in different versions of Windows.  You may find
these easier to use than WinZip if you want to print out or save the
directory of one of your own .cabs as a text file.
