Thank you to all that replied. Several mentioned QuickTime Alternative, and
also Video Lan. Also, apparently if you install Apple QuickTime, some codecs
are installed that allow other programs to play the mov files. I did not
want to install the overhead of the Apple product so I settled on the much
smaller program VLC Video Lan. It seems to be the best solution for my
needs.

A while back I started investigating Video Lan among others when I needed a
player to play DiVX files, but my computer hardware failed before I fully
tried it out. Now with a fresh reinstall of my system, I find that using
Video Lan suits my needs well.
