I'm taking another shot at it. Could it be that you got another CDRW
software on the old machine?

The reason why i'm asking is that, your system might be using another packet
writing software. It could be that when you use windows explorer to write
data, the CDRW is mounted onto by another software other than DirectCD. Like
InCD from Nero perhaps.

Also, why not try swapping cdrom drives (test, then back again) just to
eliminate a few more possibilties to your problem?
