Norton SystemWorks will do an adequate job as long as it does not conflict
with other programs on your system. The only other drawback to NSW is that
it may slow down the operational speed of your computer.

Your defraging in the safe mode is not necessary if you close all programs
before defragging. Also defragging once a week is overdoing it. You should
only defrag when the disk becomes really fragmented. Typical use will not
fragment a disk very fast. If you are a typical user once every three
months would be good (as a general rule). Take a look at your disk map in
NSW and visually see if the disk contents are overly scattered.
Defragmenting often could give bad results like overusing anything can. I
believe that Windows 98se has the same tools built in that NSW has (disk
scan, defragmentation, etc.). Both NSW and the Win98 built-in programs
should achieve the same results.
