I have heard that "OilChange" will automatically update MOST of your
software. Does this prog really work?.....Is it worth the yearly fee? Your
comments would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using Oil Change for close to a year now and its been able to
detect new drivers for my sound card, updates to Internet Explorer 3.02 and
4.X. Its also able to find updates for most commercial applications and
programs. But understand that OC is only as good as their current database
of updates and CyberMedia has sometimes not been as fast as some central
download sites.

But for a hassle-free computing experience, it works. It checks your
Windows and installed applications to make sure you have the latest you need
and lists some additional add-ons and goodies. You then have a choice of an
automatic or manual install. Automatic -- and the program does everything
from downloading, installing and reboot after you say yes. It didn't detect
*all* the programs and applications on my computer but in this day of
over-hype, it did all right.

Cybermedia has a 30-day limited trial you might want to try at their website
at www.cybermedia.com. Their tech support is acceptable via their forum
boards and I would suggest you check out the FAQs and user forums to
acquaint yourself with any quirks.

Another update service is TuneUp which is a recent entry. It doesn't allow
a free trial but want a purchase then refund if you aren't satisfied.
Having said all that, Windows 98 has an update facility built into the
operating system, which, will take some of the appeal away from update
programs like these.

Hope my two cents helps!
