You didn't mention your operating system. It's been a while since I've used
anything other than XP. I don't normally have a need for a Windows password,
but I just tried this with XP. I have a shortcut to "My Pictures"
screensaver created by right clicking "ssmypics.scr" in the Windows system32
folder and selecting "Send To Desktop (create shortcut)" and then moving the
shortcut to the Quick Launch bar.
I found that by going to the Screen Saver tab in Display Properties and
selecting the screen saver, checking the "On resume, password protect" box
and setting the "Wait" time to one minute, that after starting the
screensaver from the shortcut and allowing it to run for the allotted time,
it would prompt me for the password. I then set the screensaver to "None",
my normal setting, but it wouldn't work that way.
There are screensavers with password protection available. Perhaps a search
at one of the download sites such as CNET
(http://download.com.com/2001-20-0.html?legacy=cnet) or WebAttack
(http://www.webattack.com/) would turn up one to your liking. I hope you've
found this useful, I'm sure you'll get other suggestions.

I have recently been playing with the idea of having a desktop shortcut to
start up a screensaver. I have the shortcut in place and everything and when
you double click it, it starts the screensaver just fine. However it does
not utilize the "secure" feature that prompts for password on resume. Is
there a command line flag or something I can add to the target line so that
the screensaver is secure too? Or how would I make it so that clicking on
the screen saver shortcut stats a secure screensaver. Secure being one that
prompts for a password on resume.
