The little icon is called a "control box" and is a hold over from
Windows 3.x. It's main functions have now been moved to the top right
corner -- Minimize, Maximize/Restore, and Exit.
When Win95 first came out, the box was put there to help the Win3.x
users transition to the new system. I had also heard that eventually
MS was going to remove it completely.
How 'bout it, you 98 beta testers? Is the control box still up in the
left hand corner?
