Karen, if you don't want Yahoo companion, you might want to uninstall yahoo
messenger and yahoo companion completely then reinstall just yahoo messenger
without companion.  It's a choice you can make with a new install.  You
don't have to worry that uninstalling messenger will wipe out your friends
list, because it won't, but as long as you have companion you will be
prompted to update it when new versions are available
