I have installed additional RAM in mamny systems over many years. Some
BIOS configurations will recognize the additional RAM as soon as the
machine is booted. Other BIOS requires that you hit the Delete key or F1
key or whichever to enter the BIOS Setup and tell it that you have the
additional RAM.
I have never had to re-install, DOS, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 when
installing additional RAM.
The RAM counter during boot-up should count to the correct level. If not,
problems encountered have been mostly with improper seating of the chip,
incompatible chips in the same bank or defective chips or in the case of
some older brand name computers only that brand name of RAM could be used.
