Peter, here are two faq's and answers from www.faq.com.

Q. Every time I start NT, explorer is started showing the system32
directory.

A. This is caused by an incorrect program call at startup, search the
areas a program can be started from for an incorrect entry, these
are listed at An Application keeps starting every time I start NT.

Q. An Application keeps starting every time I start NT.

A. Applications can be started from a number of places

In the Startup Folder for the current user, and all user group
     In the registry:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows, run and Load keys

The easiest way would be to search the registry using REGEDIT on the
application name

These two answers might solve your problem, also try the URL at the top.
