Until recently we WERE able to open all of the PDF files on the XP machines. That's why I suspect it is a conflict with SP2? or one of the security programs? We have tried turning off the firewall and different other security programs one at a time, but no luck there.

All the office machines are affected & the e-mail we use is a yahoo account, which is accessed thru IE. Don't seem to have any other problem with this yahoo account.
BTW, files that were saved before this problem started can be opened.

Why would I get the damaged file message on the XP machines only while I can go home and open those same files on my ME machine accessing the same e-mail account??? & what would "damage" the files???

It is starting to sound like the only problem you have with PDF files
is
when they are sent as e-mail attachments to the office machines. Do ALL
the
machines that are affected share the same e-mail server? Are there any
XP
machines that use the same server but do not have a problem reading the
PDF?
If the e-mail server is the common item, then you would need to examine
how
the server processes attachments. Are you using POP3, or IMAP?
