I just want to add my $0.02 to this hot topic.

So far from what I've experenced, win2k is better than XP.

Firstly, there are software compatibility problems with XP, much worse than with win2k, some "XP fixes" still didn't fix anything yet.
2nd, it seems there is no advantage XP over win2k on games, I've seen/heard more games problems on XP than win2k, my friend did test (both play them and benchmark) on large number of games between XP and 2k platform (on his computer), he found win2k runs better & faster.
3rd, even none of MS product should be trusted, but win2k is much better on term of security, you just can't trust XP.
4th, hardware driver support for XP is getting better, but still need a lot of improvement, win2k has much better driver support.

The advantages I see XP over win2k:
1) XP has better PnP, needs less reboot when installing software/hardware/change certain settings. But, this PnP has security bug.
2) doing XP OEM pre-installation is much much better & easier, win2k is a pain. (this is only good for system builder, like me, not for any normal users)
3) XP has larger build-in driver database, install XP on certain systems, can save time (again, not for normal users).
4) XP pre-installation can save a bit of system test time (no need to test network and floppy drive anymore).
