Hello Karen,

I've no experience with Yahoo Companion, however, depending on what version
of windows you are using, you may

Click on:

Start
then
Run

In the box enter  msconfig

Now you are in the System Configuration Utility.

Click on the Startup tab

Look under here for an entry for Yahoo Companion whether it be launch,
setup, or whatever.  Now simply uncheck it then re-boot.

I hope this works, at least it's a guess.
