While your machine is losing time too slow to easily diagnose, my thoughts would
be the CMOS battery is getting weak. The CMOS battery keeps the clock running
when the PC is off as well as maintaining power for the CMOS (BIOS settings).
The most obvious sign is when a clock loses time when the PC is powered off but
not when powered on. If the clock loses time when the PC is running, the most
common reason is a misbehaving program that is directly affecting the timing
(most often an old shareware game in jmy experiance).
Have the battery checked or just replace it, they're fairly cheap as PC parts
go. Be sure and write down your BIOS settings or use one of the programs that
record your BIOS settings. Removing the battery will likely cause a reset to
default values.
