The ILOVEYOU virus and some of its variants do exactly this - rename all
JPG files to .JPG.VBS files.  Try just renaming one of the files to
remove the ".VBS" part and they should work again.  The company I work
for got hit in the first pass of the ILOVEYOU virus.
