Cheeta,
No, the advice about setting my WordPad program to be compatible with Win98
didn't work, because when I go into properties, in WordPad, and into
'Compatability', it is all grayed out and says "Compatibility modes cannot
be set in this program because it's part of XP." (So, I guess it is indeed
too "stitched into XP", as Paul thought it might be.) I suspect the problem
likes in the fact that I HAD used a Word Viewer, and I believe it WAS the
one you're suggesting. That's what started all my problems in the first
place, I think. Because, I had WordPad in Win98SE and I have WordPad in XP,
and I believe there would have been no problem, had I not corrupted my
WordPad files by installing Word Viewer. Boy, I'll be very careful from now
on with some of these programs, even if they ARE Microsoft compatible.

I downloaded Open Office last night. Still took.....I guess about an hour,
come to think of it, even on DSL. Now I have to install it, but haven't had
the chance to get to that yet, what with some other even more pressing
things having come up. (My problem with not being able to list things on
Ebay, because of some kind of Java setting or something, has taken top
priority. I've sent an email to the List about it, which hasn't been
approved and posted yet. Hopefully, it will be by the time this one is.)
