I had the same problem after installing SP2. It turned out to be that SP2
said that I had a LAN connection, which I didn't. I went into Control
Panel. Network Connections clicked on LAN connection, followed the
directions and finally got the LAN connection disconnected.
I have removed and reinstalled SP2 since, and this problem did not reappear.
It's worth a shot.

hi there my sister is running xp pro,and she has a problum !she doanloaded
sp2 and she said it took 4 hours and now she says that she has a yellow
triangle on the bottom of her page that says her network connection is not
working, but she can still surf the web,any body out there with any answers
