In attempting to setup faxing in Win98, I installed Windows Messaging and
fax

Clicking Inbox to add the fax, I get an error message,

"Mapisp32
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down"
Detail: "Mapisp32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at
0187:bff7b9a6".

Windows Messaging stays open. Continuing after error message to enable
faxing in Inbox Setup Wizard, get to

"C:\Exchange\mailbox.pab

An error occurred when configuring this file as the Personal Address
Book. Please choose another file".

C:\Exchange was installed in setup. Substituting address produces same
error message.

Windows Messaging won't close without using Close Program dialog box.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Messaging and fax produced same
results.

Would I be successful substituting MS Exchange for Messaging? I do not
need Mail service. It seems I recall installing HyperTerminal to enable
faxing. Is that an alternative?

I know there are many third party fax programs. My query is just for fax
option in Windows.
