You may want to start out with downloading and installing Startup Cop from
PC Magazine (April 99). The program runs with all versions of windows. After
starting Startup Cop, you can among other things, right click on any one of
the numerous processes to get a little more detail on where it is running
and from what folder.
It's best feature of course is in that it allows you to temporarily suspend
the running of individual programs to see what effect it has on the
remaining programs which are executed from the registry, startup folder or
ini files - and delete those you have determined are not of any benefit you
can determine.
If you can't find it by normal searches, let me know and I'll provide a
specific reference.
