Mick,
You have actually asked two contradictory questions. If a program
compresses the file into a format that all the others can read
and unzip, then it is using a standard format -- which they ALL do.
Since they all use the same format, then none can compress "better"
because they all compress exactly the same.
What you want to look for are the features of the program, not the
compression. How easy/friendly is it to use? Does it "tie in" to
the Windows Explorer so that I can right click a filename and add
it to a zip? (I'm assuming you are using Win9x) Can I unzip directly
from inside the Win Explorer? Does it make self-extracting files?
Those are the kinds of questions you should be asking.
